How and Why Smart Kids Works

In addition to our proven A+ Program, Smart Kids employees are certified, academically gifted, caring, motivated, and patient tutors/instructors. Students work in a safe, quite, and structured learning environment, coupled with an administrative team that is consistently monitoring and ensuring our students are progressing and achieving their goals.  Most importantly, we don’t waste time teaching our students curriculum that they have already mastered.

Step 1.  Pre-Assessment Tests

Before any of our tutoring programs begin, we administer pre-assessment tests in Mathematics and Reading (Vocabulary, Language Usage, & Reading Comprehension).  It’s here where we find what the student knows, where the student is in need of further development, and what grade level the student is working at. This is where we save time and money, for you and your child. Once the student completes the appropriate pre-assessment tests, we will meet and show you what common core lessons your student has mastered, what lessons need to be worked on to master that grade level, and which of our tutoring programs would be best to enroll your child in.

Step 2.  Individualized Lesson Plans

As a result of the pre-assessment tests, individualized prescribed lessons plans are delivered to the student.  These lesson plans are targeted  for each student (If we had a classroom of ten 5th grade students, not one of them would have the exact same lesson plans to work on, as every student comes to us with their own strengths and weaknesses – its time saving!). Each lesson consists of a Study Guide, a slideshow format tutorial teaching students the concept of the lesson, a Practice Test, where students demonstrate what they have learned (practice tests come with access to the study guide), and a Mastery Test, which is where students demonstrate mastery of the lesson (no access to the study guide).

Step 3.  Post-Assessment Tests

Once our student has completed all of the lessons in their lesson plan and receives a passing score on the Review Test, which consists of a mix of all the lessons in the plan, a Post-Assessment test is then delivered to the student (this is where we show progress!).  After a passing score* is revealed, a decision is made by the parent, student, and Smart Kids.  We can review the current grade level again (especially for 7th grade students) or we can move on to the next higher grade level.  It’s that easy!

*In the event that a student does not receive a passing score on the post-assessment test, this assessment will also prescribe an additional individualized lesson plan, based on the deficiencies found from this test.  The student will complete these lessons and then re-take the post-assessment test.
