5th and 6th Grade

(Selective Preparation: Academic Center Program)

Academic Center Profiles:

Smart Kids Fifth Grade Standardized Testing Program

Our A+ program helps to prepare 6th grade students for the Academic Center Admissions Test.  We also offer a program for 5th graders to prepare for the Fifth Grade Standardized Test, as this test is one third of the admissions score.

With its adoption by over 40 states, the Common Core (NWEA/MAP) has become a de facto national assessment standard.  Beginning in 2015, all Chicago students, both public and private, will take a 100% Common Core compliant assessment.

The NWEA/MAP test will be used for the 5th grade standardized test in the admissions formula.

To fully prepare students for these more rigorous tests, Smart Kids has incorporated material based on these new tougher Common Core standards into its curriculum and program materials.

About the Test

The Selective Enrollment Entrance Exam is given from October through January to 8th grade students seeking admission to one of the Selective Enrollment High Schools.  The same exam and process is used by all schools. Students must achieve a 24% or above in Reading and Math on the MAP test to sit for this exam.

The exam's format may change from year to year.  The exam, including administrative time, lasts about three hours.  There are no essay sections on the exam.

Smart Kids’ Selective Enrollment Prep. tutoring program provides a rigorous review of the concepts that will be covered on the exam.  This way, students are well prepared for the Selective Enrollment Entrance Exam, regardless of the format ultimately chosen by CPS.

Smart Kids Sixth Grade Standardized Testing Program

Smart Kids offers the best classroom and on-line tutoring programs in Chicago to help students prepare for the Academic Center Admissions test.  The Admissions Test is an aptitude test containing unusual problems that assess your child's ability to recognize figurative, mathematical and verbal relationships.  This test is one third of the score required for admissions to an Academic Center.
